Data and media guidelines

SEMA can accept a range of data and media types, and will work with clients to ensure that we can use whatever is available. However, these are some industry-standard formats that we accept with certainty to ensure a trouble-free campaign:

Formats

Text

SEMA can accept text in ASCII, MS Word and Excel, WordPerfect and PageMaker.

Image

SEMA can accept images, signatures, logos, and other graphics in TIFF, CorelDraw, PageMaker, PCX, BMP, EPS, high-resolution JPG with minimal compression, etc.

Data

SEMA can accept data in tab or pipe-delimited ASCII, fixed-length ASCII, MS Excel or Access, etc. SEMA requires a full field layout description including field names, field delimiter and field lengths where applicable for advice to the programmer. The minimum requirement for personal customers should include the following fields:

<Title> <FirstName> <LastName>
<Address Line 1>
<Address Line 2>
<Suburb> <State> <Postcode>

Please call your Client Service Representative or Account Manager for specific instructions on record formats and record layouts for data, text and image. Field layout descriptions can be faxed or emailed.

Prior to the first mailing, or if there has been a change to the data structure since the previous mailing, SEMA would prefer to receive a 'test data' file. We could check this test data to ensure no irregularities could affect the IT processing when the 'live data' file arrives.

Media types

SEMA can accept the following media types:

  • Email
  • Diskette
  • Magnetic tape
  • CD/DVD
  • DAT
  • FTP/modem transfer
  • BBS transfer
  • Zip Disk
  • QIC-6000 cartridge
  • DLT

Agreement will need to be made on the preferred file transfer protocol prior to data transfer implementation.
