SEMA wins ICT awards for My School website

SEMA recognised as it wins two state-level awards for the delivery of the popular My School website

SEMA Group has won two state awards at the Australian Information Industry Association’s (AIIA) prestigious iAwards.  The Queensland categories of eGovernment and eLearning were awarded to SEMA for delivering the My School website, recognising the organisation as one of the state’s leading information and communications technology (ICT) innovators.

SEMA, a major Australian IT services organisation, specialises in providing outsourced solutions for sensitive data projects.  SEMA partnered with the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Commission (ACARA) to design and deliver the website.

The solution required the development of a data collection store for the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results and a public interface to publish the results via the web. SEMA worked in collaboration with the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to create the My School website.

My School combines and references millions of data strings to offer comparisons of a single school against statistically similar schools as well as all other Australian schools.  Data such as NAPLAN results, school census information, parent-based information and other school outcome data is collated to present an overall profile on each school featured on the site.

The awards were presented by Mr Mal Grierson, Director-General of the Queensland Department of Public Works and sees SEMA through to the National round of the AIIA’s iAwards.  Judging will be conducted in Melbourne on the 3rd and 4th of August, with the winners announced at the gala dinner on the 5th of August.

National winners will then represent Australia at the APICTA Awards to be held in Malaysia later in the year.  AIIA CEO, Ian Birks said, “Australian ICT companies continue to match the best technology innovation on offer across the globe.  We have a world-class industry poised to deliver solutions to the Australian business community.”

“The 2010 state and territory iAwards winners provide a fantastic showcase of what the ICT industry has to offer.”

SEMA logged two million visitors to the My School website from the time of its launch on 28th January up until the end of April. The popularity of the site and general interest it has generated in the media proves that digital solutions such as My School can help business and Government alike solve their informational challenges.

SEMA has been encouraged by the enormous awareness that the My School site has created and envisages spin-off sites such as My Hospital and My University are only a step away.
